Which Tractors Can Run a Grader Attachment? Mahindra, John Deere, New Holland, Swaraj, Sonalika, Massey Ferguson and Eicher

"Will it fit my tractor?" is the first question we hear, at the booth, on the phone, on WhatsApp. After 25+ years of building tractor attachments in Vidisha, our answer is always the same: the bonnet badge matters far less than three other things. Rated horsepower. Whether the tractor is 2WD or 4WD. And what the hydraulics can do. Get those right and a grader attachment will work on almost any mainstream Indian tractor. Get them wrong, and you'll spend a season fighting wheel slip.

Here is how to check your own tractor, plus a model-by-model look at Mahindra, John Deere, New Holland, Swaraj, Sonalika, Massey Ferguson and Eicher.

Short Answer: It's Not About the Brand

Our grader attachments are used with tractors from John Deere, Mahindra, Sonalika, Kubota, New Holland, Eicher, Swaraj and Massey Ferguson. What changes from tractor to tractor is the fit, and that depends on the numbers below.

Three Checks Before You Order a Grader Attachment

✅ Rated engine HP. Not the "50 HP category" printed in a brochure, but the actual rated engine HP on your tractor's spec sheet. Our grader attachments start at 49 HP.

✅ 2WD or 4WD. A 4WD tractor takes the single pin (front hitch mounted). A 2WD tractor takes the double pin (clutch-mounted).

✅ Hydraulics and weight. This is the one people skip. Horsepower alone doesn't decide compatibility. Hydraulic configuration, tractor weight, traction and the kind of work all play a part. A mismatch shows up as wheel slip, higher fuel use, structural stress and lost productivity.

Mahindra

The big NOVO 655 sits comfortably in range. The smaller 36 to 50 HP class models, the NOVO 605 DI PS and the 575 YUVO TECH+, are the ones to double-check. Mahindra rates the 575 YUVO TECH+ at 47 HP, which is under our 49 HP minimum.

John Deere

The 5075E at 74 HP is the easy one. We've already written a full 5075E compatibility guide for it. The 5405 sits in the same comfortable zone, though John Deere's own page lists it at both 63 HP and 57 HP depending on where you look, so go by your tractor's rated figure. The 5210 GearPro and 5050 D are both 50 HP, available in 2WD and 4WD. They clear our minimum by one horsepower, which means a lighter-duty job and a patient operator.

New Holland

The 5620 TX Plus (65 HP) and 5630 TX Plus (75 HP) land right where most road contractors work. Both come in 2WD and 4WD. The 3630 TX Super Plus+ is a very common tractor, but its HP wasn't stated on the page we checked, so read your spec sheet.

Swaraj

The 855 FE and 744 FE are popular, and both are sold in the 46 to 50 HP class. That band straddles our 49 HP line, so the rated HP of your exact tractor decides it. Send us the model and year, and we'll tell you.

Sonalika

The Sikander DLX at 55 HP has room to spare. The Tiger DI 50 and Tiger 55 III sit at about 50 to 52 HP, so they clear the minimum by a thin margin and will work at the slower end of the speed range.

Massey Ferguson

The MF 9500 Super Shuttle is a 4WD at 58 HP, so it lines up with the single pin without much fuss. The 7250 Challenger and the 8055 MAGNATRAK are both listed at 50 HP, but the pages we checked didn't say whether the tractor in question is 2WD or 4WD, and that decides single pin or double pin. The older 244 DI is a 44 HP 2WD, below our 49 HP minimum.

Eicher

The 557 4WD is rated at 50 HP, just over the line. For any other Eicher model, apply the same two rules: rated engine HP above 49, and the right drive type.

2WD or 4WD: Which Grader Attachment Fits?

You don't need a 4WD tractor to run a grader attachment. Our double pin grader is made for 2WD tractors above 49 HP.

But if you're grading every week, 4WD earns its price. On our own guidance, 35 to 45 HP is workable either way, 45 to 55 HP prefers 4WD, 55 to 75 HP should be 4WD, and above 75 HP it's strongly recommended. The reasons are simple: better traction, less slip, better blade control, higher productivity. Our deeper 2WD vs 4WD comparison covers the return on investment.

One more thing worth knowing. A four-wheel grader does not turn a tractor into a 4WD. The front axle is replaced with a grader axle, and the front wheels stay unpowered.

How Much HP Is Enough?

Most rural, semi-urban and secondary road grading in India gets done with tractors in the 50 to 75 HP range.

A 50 to 60 HP tractor handles almost every grader job, including road levelling, gravel and moorum spreading, shoulder formation and final finishing, at around 3 to 4 km/h. A 65 to 75 HP tractor does the same job at roughly 4 to 6 km/h, so you cover more kilometres a day. What you don't get from extra HP is a better finish. Grading quality is the same. Only the speed changes.

The Part the Brochures Skip

Two tractors with the same HP can behave very differently under a grader.

🔧 Hydraulics. The blade lift, angle, and tilt all run on hydraulics, and the circuit needs check valves so the blade doesn't drift. Tell us your tractor model so we can check the hookup.

🛠️ Weight and traction. A light tractor spins instead of pulling. That's why grader attachment weight matters and why tyre size and ballast count too.

📏 Frame and mounting. A strong frame with proper load transfer to the tractor beats a wider blade. Look for reinforced mounting points and balanced weight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I run a grader attachment on a 45 HP tractor?

A: Our single pin grader is listed for 49 to 110 HP and the double pin for tractors above 49 HP, so a 45 HP tractor is under the published minimum. Call us with your tractor model and our team will tell you whether it's workable.

Q: Do I need a 4WD tractor to run a grader attachment?

A: No. The double pin grader is built for 2WD tractors above 49 HP. That said, 4WD is generally preferred for regular grading because it gives better traction, better blade control and higher productivity.

Q: Does the tractor brand matter?

A: Much less than HP, drive type and hydraulics. Our grader attachments are used with tractors from John Deere, Mahindra, Sonalika, Kubota, New Holland, Eicher, Swaraj and Massey Ferguson.

Q: What HP range works best for grading roads?

A: Most rural, semi-urban and secondary road grading is done with tractors in the 50 to 75 HP range. A 50 to 60 HP tractor handles almost all grader work at around 3 to 4 km/h, and a 65 to 75 HP tractor works at around 4 to 6 km/h with the same grading quality.

Q: Does my tractor's hydraulic system matter?

A: Yes. Compatibility isn't decided by horsepower alone. Hydraulic configuration, tractor weight, traction, operating conditions and attachment design all play a part, so share your tractor model with us, and we'll check the hookup.

Q: Does a four-wheel grader make my 2WD tractor a 4WD?

A: No. A four-wheel grader does not convert a tractor into a 4WD machine. The front axle is replaced with a grader axle, and the front wheels stay unpowered.

Q: What happens if the tractor and grader are mismatched?

A: A mismatch between tractor horsepower and grader design leads to wheel slip, higher fuel consumption, structural stress and reduced productivity.

Q: What warranty comes with the grader attachment?

A: Our grader attachments come with a 1-year hydraulic warranty.

Q: What should I send to check whether my tractor is compatible?

A: Send the tractor make, model and year, the rated engine HP, whether it's 2WD or 4WD, and the work you'll be doing. Call or WhatsApp +91 9425149002 or email info@ashokmetalworks.com.
